The Purpose:

The major change in the new 2013 Hours-of-Service Regulation is how and when drivers can complete a 34-hour reset. Aside from the regulation changes, many companies are moving towards using electronic logs (eLogs) to calculate/keep track of a driver's On-Duty, Off-Duty, Sleeper Birth, and Long-Haul/Short-Haul Cycle times. Although these regulations and new ways to keep track of time are meant for safety and convenience, drivers are faced with additional stress of trying to manage their precious driving time because of it; driving for a living is stressful enough!

This application is meant to assist drivers, dispatchers, safety managers or anyone that needs to calculate off-duty time per the new 2013 HOS Regulations.

First let's take a look at the new addition of the 34-Hour Reset limitations.

Summary of Hours-of-Service (HOS) Regulations

1) A minimum of 34 hours
2) Include two periods of 1am - 5am
3) 168 hours from the START of the last valid cycle reset

Since many transportation vehicles have some sort of electronic log system already implemented (they will soon enough if they aren't!), and the electronic systems keep track of a driver's time down to the second, these new calculations can be time consuming and have the potential for human error. Although many of the eLog systems show how much time has passed, do they have an alarm to alert you? What happens if the in-cab device goes down? What if you are not in the truck and want to be alerted?

This simple application will accurately calculate your required off-duty time for you and allow you to set an alarm/notification to remind you of when you went off-duty and/or when you can go on-duty again. This ultimately allows for reduced stress about tracking time, reduced the potential for HOS violations, and lets a driver focus on driving!

A Quick Overview of the HOS Cycle Calculator:

This application will calculate a 34hr reset, which factors in all 3 requirements per the new regulations. It can also calculate a standard 10-hour off-duty reset, and a 34-hour only reset (doesn't factor in the 168 hours from last reset). All 3 types of calculations allow for independent alarms for convenience. Simple and useful!
